Solo pieces for the EMS Synthi synthesiser.

All tracks recorded live without overdubs

Justin Bennett has been playing EMS synthesiser since he was 16.
The design of the instrument was quite radical as it is somewhere in between a classic keyboard-controlled synthesiser and a general device for processing and mixing - a miniature electronic music studio in a suitcase.

There are two basic techniques behind all the pieces in this release. Firstly, the use of internal and external feedback circuits to create what David Tudor termed "giant oscillators" which are tamed, rather than played by the operator of the synthesiser. Sometimes a delay pedal or a phase-shifter was patched into the feedback circuit.

The second technique used was that of interfering with the connection matrix of the instrument either simply by short-circuiting it or using a computer-controlled matrix mixer to create superimposed rhythmic sequences.
